So. Now for Round 1 of my Power Blogging Session: The Everything Books Tag. I made it up, if you want to do it for yourself, feel free to in the comments section at the bottom of the post. So here we go!
1. Harry Potter or Twilight?
I’m gonna have to say Harry Potter. Why? Trying not to offend anyone, I could go on about it for ages, but basically I reckon that the idea is a bit cliche, the whole girl meets cute vampire and werewolf thing. Not so with Harry Potter! And I also really loved the plot, J.K Rowling has to be one of the best and most original writers of all time! Not to mention the fact that it’s the most best-selling series. Ever. That’s a clear winner for me.
2. The Hunger Games or Divergent?
This one’s a lot harder. But I have to say that, while I really loved the dystopian setting and the whole “factions” idea in Divergent, I preferred The Hunger Games trilogy. That’s probably because of the main characters. I don’t know why, but Katniss’ strength and determination but also compassion (e.g. Rue and Prim) and ability to deal with conflict aka leadership, appealed to me a lot more than Tris’ kind of, don’t kill me for this, I suppose stubborn attitude? Also, I really liked the Hunger Games’ male characters more than Tobias. Both Gale AND Peeta, although I am Team Peeta all the way.
3. E-books or paperbacks?
Paperbacks. I just like having the physical book and having a physical bookshelf, although e-books can be convenient… and cheap.
4. What’s the most recent book that you finished?
The Help. It’s a really good book (also with an award winning movie with Emma Stone and a couple of others) that is about African-American maids in the 1960s, and you’d be surprised at some of the terrible things they had to put up with, like separate toilets in the garage to avoid “Negro diseases”, atrocious pay, not allowed to share public libraries, pools, bus seats, and more, just to name a few. Anyway, it’s about this white girl (Emma Stone) who tries to write a book with testimonies from the maids, called the ‘help’, and has to overcome all of society’s expectations for her etc. It’s really good, especially if you love lots of strong…and sassy female characters that try and make a difference, and do, with a historical and political message!
5. When and where do you usually read?
After school in my room or on the train, sometimes in the library at lunch.
6. What are your 5 favourite series/books of all time?
In no particular order: 1. The Hunger Games Trilogy 2. Harry Potter Series 3. Divergent 4. The Maze Runner Trilogy 5. The Help
7. What are you reading now?
Kill Me Softly, by Sarah Cross. It’s about fractured fairytales, the main character is sort of like Sleeping Beauty. It’s pretty good, but not the best book ever.
8. Why do you love reading?
Because stories make me feel like a different world and sometimes make me think differently about things. I also love thinking through the eyes of other people and see different places, sometimes go on adventures or do stuff I could never to in real life.
So this is my first tag!!! I hope you enjoyed it – if you want to do it yourself please post it below
